The Shelby County YMCA is currently hiring lifeguards for the aquatics department. They offer a flexible schedule to fit the student's availability. One benefit for the students is that as a YMCA employee they would receive a free individual membership.

The YMCA is interested in individuals that have a current lifeguard certification and individuals that are willing and able to become lifeguard certified. We will be hosting a certification class over the next few weeks, so individuals without a current lifeguarding certification would be able to take this course with us. In order to participate in the course each individual would have to pass the swim evaluations listed below and they must be at least 16.

Prerequisites:

 - 100 meter swim (non-stop using the freestyle or breaststroke)

 - 2 minute water tread (hands and head must be above water for the entire 2 minutes)

 - Brick test (swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 pound brick from the depth of 5 feet, and swim or walk it back to the wall, exit the pool without using steps or ladder; all needs to be done in 50 seconds)

If you have any students that are interested please have them email a resume to our Aquatic Director, Mikaela Scheu. m.scheu@shelbycountyymca.org

Just a reminder…All students need to be checking their TC email accounts daily. It is important you do not miss any important announcements, opportunities, or information.

Reminder for seniors…Please take the time to fill out scholarships listed conveniently in you Google drive or on the TCHS website. New scholarships are added as we receive them so please remember to check periodically to see what you can apply for. This is free money so please take advantage of these opportunities! Also please check to make sure you have 6 hours for community service before graduation!
